Clarity, Comfort, & Flexibility

Contact lenses are an excellent option for vision correction if you have found that glasses don’t fit within your lifestyle. However, not all contact lenses are equal. The friendly and experienced opticians at North Tustin Ave Optometric Center are here to make sure you find the best contacts for your eyes.

Wearing contacts that are not right for your eyes can cause discomfort or even damage. Wondering what will work best for you? Please request an appointment so we can give you the guidance you need to make an informed decision.

Our Process

We work hard to ensure all of our contact lens exams go quickly and smoothly. First, we will discuss your medical history so we can ensure everything is up to date and to rule out any conditions that may prevent you from wearing contacts. We will then examine your eyes to determine if contacts are a good choice for you.

If contacts are found to be a suitable option for you, we will measure your eyes to determine the right fit and style. We use a few different tools and methods to measure the diameter and curvature of your eyes:

Corneal topography is an imaging technique that produces a 3-D map of the surface of your cornea, allowing your optometrist to look for irregularities that could affect your ability to wear contact lenses comfortably.

Contact lenses are typically worn by patients who have one or more refractive errors. To accurately gauge your prescription, we will use a digital refraction system.

With this system, we have you look through a series of lenses to determine which lenses give you the clearest, crispest vision possible.

OCT testing helps us diagnose various eye conditions like age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, and cataracts, which may affect your ability to wear contact lenses.

Specialty Contact Lenses

We carry a variety of specialty lenses specifically designed to meet the visual needs of patients with conditions such as keratoconus or astigmatism.

Scleral lenses are designed for individuals with irregularly shaped corneas. These specialized lenses vault over the cornea and rest on the sclera (white of the eye) to accommodate the irregular shape of the cornea and provide clear vision.

Orthokeratology, or ortho-k lenses, are worn at night to gently reshape the cornea. Ortho-k lenses only reshape the cornea temporarily, so they need to be worn every night in order to remain effective.

Aspheric lenses are an excellent choice for individuals with severe myopia or hyperopia, due to a phenomenon called spherical aberration. Spherical aberration occurs when the light rays that hit the curved surface of the eye and spherical lens do not converge at the same point, resulting in blurry vision.

Aspheric lenses have flat edges, which are designed to deflect light rays and avoid image errors, providing clear vision.

Toric lenses are oblong-shaped lenses designed for patients with astigmatism, which is caused by an irregular shaped cornea. These specially shaped lenses are designed to accommodate the cornea’s irregular shape and are made using multiple prescriptions. They are also weighted to ensure they remain rotationally stable throughout the day.

Multifocal lenses can correct both distance and near vision by having multiple prescriptions at different focal points on the same lens. You can get bifocal or trifocal contacts, depending on your needs.

Hybrid lenses, as their name suggests, combine the benefits of both soft and rigid gas permeable contact lenses. They feature a rigid, gas permeable center section surrounded by a soft skirt for increased comfort and stability.
